Health
Issues:Producing
quality, healthy puppies is the highest priority at Laurjosh. To
that end, we do the following to minimize* the chances of genetic and/or
physical problems in the puppies we produce: |
- Immunizations:
All puppies are immunized at 8, 12, & 16 weeks. After 16 weeks, they
receive their first rabies vaccination (usually the responsibility
of the new owner).
- Worming:
Puppies are wormed at least twice by 8 weeks of
age. We have also begun treating all puppies for Giardia and
Coccidia.
- Spay/Neuter:
We firmly believe that the best pets are
neutered pets! We also believe that breeding should only be done by
people that have studied the breed, been mentored by qualified
people, and for whom health, welfare, temperament and confirmation
are the utmost concern. Consequently ALL pets are sold with a
Spay/Neuter Contract and AKC "Limited Registration."
- Food:
Our puppies are weaned onto a premium brand of puppy dog food. We
believe that nutrition plays an important role in the overall
development and well being of the dog. You will be informed of the
brand of food currently being used at the time of purchase and
provided with a sample.

*It
is important to realize that all illnesses are
not avoidable in puppies, including kennel
cough. There is available vaccination for only a
handful of the viruses that cause these
illnesses. Kennel Cough is highly contagious and
once in a kennel, is difficult to quarantine due
to its virulence and droplet spread. It is
NOT related to kennel hygiene any more than
the common cold in humans is related to personal
hygiene. Hang around people long enough and
you're certain to get it. Fortunately, like the
common cold, Kennel Cough is usually
self-limited but MAY require antibiotics to
treat or prevent secondary bacterial pneumonia.
Some puppies struggle due to immature immune
systems. We have encountered this in our puppies
only once in 13 years of breeding; most
certainly acquired from an adult dog attending a
dog show. |
|
- Temperament:
All puppies are fully guaranteed for the
first year of life against temperament defects that would
preclude him/her being kept safely as a pet. This does not
include behavior associated with mistreatment, neglect, or lack of
discipline. We at Laurjosh reserve the right to decide if a
puppy replacement or money refund (full or partial--no less than 50%
purchase price) is most appropriate. No puppy is knowingly sold with
a temperament that would compromise the safety of any person.
- Genetic Defects:
All puppies are fully guaranteed for the
first two (2) years of life against any genetic defect
that would preclude him/her from being kept as a pet. This includes,
but is not limited to: blindness, (PRA or Cataracts), hip dysplasia,
seizures or back paralysis. Any such claim would require written
concurrence with a minimum of two veterinarians (a specialist if
indicated); one of which shall be the choice of Laurjosh.
Adults that are placed into pet homes are placed
"as is" and do not carry the same guarantee
that puppies do.
